"J-Primate-Next" : Shaping the Future of Primate Neuroscience in Japan
Bringing together the next generation of researchers to advance primate neuroscience and foster a thriving research community.
About us
Japan has long been at the forefront of neuroscience research using primates, leading the world in systems neuroscience with macaques and modeling human neuropsychiatric disorders with marmosets. Supported by generous national funding, principal investigators driving primate neuroscience in Japan have built strong networks within this framework. However, recent trends in the natural sciences emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration across fields. While this has enabled researchers in primate neuroscience to adopt diverse and innovative approaches, opportunities for fostering close relationships among researchers have diminished.
The research environment is also undergoing significant changes. In particular, primate research, especially in neuroscience, now requires careful attention to ethical considerations and societal evaluations. Researchers are expected to continuously improve methodologies and deliver high-quality outcomes to meet these demands. Adapting to this evolving landscape calls for unprecedented collaboration among those pursuing primate neuroscience. Globally, similar initiatives to foster collaboration have emerged in Europe and the United States.
Against this backdrop, J-Primate-Next was launched. Focused on empowering the next generation of researchers in primate neuroscience, the initiative engages in a wide range of research and outreach activities to highlight the significance of primate research both domestically and internationally. By strengthening connections among its members, J-Primate-Next aims to build a new research community essential for the continued advancement of primate neuroscience.
